No preamble for this. Goonswarm is forming a new Reddit-based membercorp. This new membercorp, KarmaFleet, will be led by ex-Brave member Markonius Porkbutte. History For some of you, TEST has always been an enemy. It wasn't always so. Our first run-in with a Reddit-based alliance was with TEST back in 2010. They were a bunch of :shobon: newbies and we ended up first murdering and then befriending them since we love newbies. TEST grew while we rebuilt Goonswarm, and they were staunch allies and hilarious friends right up until they left us in 2012 to seek their own fortune and because fuck you dad. Though we saw TEST as equals traveling a similar path that Goonfleet of old did, they saw Goonswarm as something rather different. One of their directors was friends with the alliance leader of BCA, and he spent years sowing mistrust in the upper levels of TEST management. This mistrust didn't initially make it to line members in Goonswarm or TEST, so much of the period between TEST's departure from Dek and the Fountain invasion appeared to make very little sense. At any rate, the problem was never TEST line members or newbies. The problem was insane leadership (The Madness of Montolio) creating self-fulfilling prophecies. We collectively put off attacking TEST as long as we did because we still had hopes of patching up that relationship, being space buds, and derping around EVE causing havoc. Brave Newbies followed a parallel evolution of relations. They were formed following the Battle of Asakai, but our first serious contact was in Syndicate courtesy of OMEGA and Space Violence. They built up a relationship that we tried to leverage officially via diplomatic channels, but without much success. We still loved newbies and were quite keen on establishing relations, but before we could manage to overcome some other issues, BRAVE was hired away by Northern Coalition. to clear out and occupy Catch. NC., in addition to being hilarious deal-breaking enemies of ours, are not in the least new-player friendly. For NC., BRAVE represented a meat shield against a potential Russian resurgence and potential content for them and their allies in Pandemic Legion. NC. would alternatively kill and help, farm and poach. In an effort to hopefully break Brave free from this endless cycle of newbie abuse, we offered to relocate them to Delve gratis, no strings attached. By way of backchannels, this information made it back to NC., who then swiftly convinced Brave that Delve was not in their best interests and that they should stay put right where they were. NC. then snagged Querious when we left and installed their allies Darkness and Kadeshi in that space, keeping their content farm and meat shield in place in Catch. Brave leadership appeared none the wiser and did not seem to grasp how they had again been played. Present Post Phoebe, Brave has been engaged in a long running skirmish with PL. I say skirmish because PL had no intention of killing Brave and were instead using Brave as content to sharpen their fleet and have some fun. Killing off Brave accidentally was likely more of a concern than anything else. The one time Brave pinned PL's super fleet down and looked like they were going to strike a heavy blow, NC. showed up to bail PL out. A few weeks later, NC. fleet commander Travis Musgrat blackmailed Brave into fighting against the Russians in the north to save a reinforced SCAA that PL had reinforced. It's a complicated web, but the loyalties and motivations here should be pretty obvious. But not, apparently, to Brave leadership. Because the greatest irony of all is that PL was forced to pull out of Catch due to the same Russians that now threatened to topple X.I.X's space empire. If the Russian threat presented by Solar is defeated, PL will once again be free to hit Brave space, and Brave will have helped them do so. We've been watching this from our fortress in the West with increasing frustration. Why would such a force of people so easily allow themselves to be manipulated? Did they have no dignity? Why wouldn't they talk to us? Why did they keep allowing their frenemies to steal talent and beat on them? Much in the way TEST had before, the value and force of Brave's line membership was diluted and blunted by ineffective leadership. Superstars were drummed out, hard calls remained unmade. The mob upvoted, the mob downvoted, and the leadership remains too petrified to act. Brave could be and should be so much more. Future This is why we're founding KarmaFleet. We have the institutional knowledge to keep newbies from turning into bitter vets who abscond with riches and join Black Legion. There's nowhere to 'graduate' to for newbies in the Swarm, nowhere that holds newbies in such high regard and is at the core of a powerful space empire. Nowhere that is as much fun. The historic weakness of Reddit-run alliances is the alliance leadership. We've already solved that. Mittani doesn't give a shit about upvotes. No wibbles on the hard calls. No fucking councils. KarmaFleet will distill everything about Brave that I admired, and strip out all the worthless bits. To that end, former Brave Intelligence Head, Brave Masterclass organizer, propaganda and video maker, and newbie mentor Markonius Porkbutte is being brought in to do what he does best. OMEGA has already been of significant help to him, and I strongly urge you to offer him your help as well if you can. In addition to spinning up KarmaFleet, Porkbutte is going to play a key role across the board in revamping our hopelessly broken mentor system. There will be spies. There will be bad posts. There will be awoxing. There will be derpery of the highest order. But more importantly, there will be newbies. Young, impressionable, high-energy newbies. Newbies that shouldn't have to suffer under awful alliance management, proceed to burn out, and then join our enemies. No more Montolios to sabotage our relationship with line members. No more dithering councils. KarmaFleet is a reincarnation we can work with.
