Thats right, this thread is back too.

Im morbid as fuck, i guess, because im fascinated by the idea of bodies staying in "ok" condition over years and years like that. Like mallory, I think it was. i'd love to check his pockets and stuff. he probably still still has a weiner and everything too, what are the odds. I probably wouildnt touch his weiner tho im just saying

i dont know why it just sounds interesting. where else you gonna see someone from the 20's in that good of a condition, its like going back in time sort of. with a cadaver

The fact is that most of us think about a lot more fucked up shit than we let on. I guess the line is taking that step between thinking fucked up shit and doing fucked up shit. And then there's the internets where people spill all their fucked up ideas and claim they 'might' be doing it just to entertain the idea further. Move along, nothing to see here.

When Stuart Campbell used to write for Amiga Power I phoned their office, asked to be put through then at length told his answer machine he didn't know anything about video games because he liked Sensible World of Soccer too much. After a few minutes he picked up the phone and told me to fuck off. Being a huge fucking nerd kid owned.

Berious was a Goonfleeter, right?

So I've been watching a bunch of RTD Who on Netflix and I'm realizing just how much of my body language was influenced by David Tennant.

I mean, it makes SENSE - I started watching Tennant (my first Doctor) right around the time my limbs started getting lanky and I had to re-learn how to move (lest I smashed my elbows, wrists, ankles, and knees on every stray cabinet or chair).

But since I identify so much more with (and talk much more like) Six, and because I only started watching "with" the show as-it-aired during the Year of Specials and S5, I always kinda underrated how much of an impact Tennant's portrayal had on me.

Funny, that.

(of course, since the amount of actual movement most of you have seen from me is minimal at best, this post is mostly useless)

I guess its possible to like Doctor Who a little too much...

Tennant is pretty good, but he sold himself out to Virgin Media here in the UK and now does television adverts for them.

I guess the money is good or something.

You can p much start where you want kind of.

I'd probably say start with the 9th Doctor then go on from there. If that didn't work for you I'd say 10th. Tennant is really good imo and I wouldn't suggest skipping ahead of the 10th Doctor.

You can just start with what's on Netflix.  I've never seen the older stuff.  The show went off the air in the 80s, came back in 2005.

There's a big thematic shift when the showrunners change when Tennant  gives way to Matt Smith.  So if the early stuff isn't your cup of tea, the later stuff might be.  Or you might hate it all.  Who has a feel all its own.

Lauren watches it and it just looks like the random rantings of a lunatic with some super shit cgi and questionable acting.

Think it was the last episode, some moon spiders or whatever kill 2 dudes in front of this kid that somehow got involved. 30 minutes later everything is good again and they send this kid off to geography class and everyone is happy. Except for the 2 bros who got their shit pushed in by badly animated alien spiders.

I hate to bring in even more Who but some of these fuckers just make it so easy (still a much better thread than most, though, weirdos and all.) First post couplet comes, apparently, from a cosplay thread.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Jonny Angel posted:

Hey DoctorWhat, sorry to ask something that sounds kinda accusatory, but why do you choose that specific Doctor to cosplay? My understanding of him is limited to two facts: he has a ridiculous colorful coat (a good reason to cosplay him), and he apparently likes to choke women? (a good reason not to cosplay him)

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

As a matter of fact, you are NOT the first individual to accuse me of domestic-violence-apologia because of The Coat!

I am extremely aware of the fucking garbage legacy of the Sixth Doctor's introductory story. I do not defend the decision to depict such actions, as some fans do, on the basis that it was "regenerative trauma". The Twin Dilemma, and the stories that follow, depict a horrendously tone-deaf and toxic relationship dynamic between the Doctor and Peri.

However, I became a fan of the Sixth Doctor via a series of audio dramas produced decades later, which posit a much-developed and "mellowed" character who expresses deep remorse for his behavior. (I am particularly looking forward to this winter's series of Six-and-Peri stories, which seem set to directly address those troubles.) So while I'd never try to excuse or defend Dilemma, I can at least honestly claim that my fannishness is DESPITE those fucking abominable moments, not because of them.

Of course, defending the Sixth Doctor (who has a number of qualities that I find, to be honest, profoundly relatable and inspirational on a personal level, especially in his more recent, better-written appearances) isn't the only angle at which I could address this. For instance:

Do you accuse cosplayers of the Joker of similar callousness? The Joker, irrespective of the whole mass-murder thing, has a profoundly abusive relationship with Harley Quinn. Yet every convention I attend, I see numerous couples dressed as that pair. The psychosexual implications are troubling, to be sure - but odds are they're just not worrying all that much about it. And just talking about Doctor Whos, the Tenth Doctor at one point invades a woman's mind against her explicit, verbal protests, yet is portrayed as being justified in that action. Furthermore, I have, in person, gotten more shit this past NYCC alone about my costume choice than I've EVER seen aimed at fans/cosplayers of Noted Rapist James Bond. And I'm willing - nay, GRATEFUL - to take that shit, because it means that people are (rightfully) finding fault with the strangulation scene, and being socially conscious.

Of course the coat is loaded. The whole incarnation of the Doctor is loaded. I endeavor to represent the more positive qualities of Ol' Sixie, without ignoring or defending the - make no mistake - MASSIVE FUCKING BAGGAGE the character carries.
(USER WAS PUT ON PROBATION FOR THIS POST)

PriorMarcus posted:

Oh? What happened?

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

A few days ago in the Cosplay Photos thread, on the distant shores of Post Your Favorite, somebody inquired as to why I'd dress up as the Sixth Doctor. This person was confused by my decision not for aesthetic reasons, but because of his impression that there wasn't much TO Ol' Sixie beyond his "habit" of strangling women.

I wrote a somewhat lengthly but, in my opinion, measured and considered defense of myself (it's not the first time I've been accused of domestic-violence apologia because of the Coat) and the inquirer apologized. I figured that'd be the end of it, but yesterday I got home and discovered that I'd been put on a week's probation for that (now days-old) post, with the only reason given in the Leper's Colony being "Terrible".

Since the in-thread response to the apparently offending post over in the Cosplay thread had been almost overwhelmingly positive, I was pretty damn confused, so I popped of a polite PM to the mod who'd requested the probation, asking what it was I'd done wrong.

I got a prompt response, to the effect that [the mod in question] had grossly misread my post and that, upon review, decided it didn't actually merit a probation. The mod had therefore put in a request to the admins to reverse the polarity probation. I gave it a while for the bureaucracy to sort out, but until less than an hour ago the probation was still active due to what was, effectively, a clerical error (looking for "Doctor What" rather than "DoctorWhat" in the admin control panels). I got all that sorted out, though.

Apparently, the post only ever drew the mod's attention due to a report, filed by persons unknown (to me, that is; the admin I contacted quite reasonably didn't volunteer their identity, and I didn't ask), consisting exclusively of the word "autism".

But I'm back now. Hooray! emot-toot.gif

"Autism." Indeed.

It came from the Doctor Who thread (again )

This episode was harmful.

This episode made me feel something- raw seething anger.

Honest to God, not the usual internet bullshit angry in a good way or angry in a fun way.

This episode was moronic, and HARMFUL to me personally.

I don't really care what anyone else has to say on this one. I'll listen to the thousands of ways you could redeem fucking Christmas Carol, go ahead, that's all plot bullshit.

I don't care that the trees were magical or that the sonic screwdriver is a magic wand or that the problem just goes away or that the people aren't there or any of it because it's in the end just factors of a dumb story that isn't going to hurt anyone.

Clara CHOOSING to kill children instead of saving them? Not THINKING about the fact that they have a time machine that can zip around and grab MORE people? Such as parents?

That's pretty bad. That's god awful.

Here's what killed the episode for me and after which I, MYSELF, cannot enjoy.

I would have shut this episode off if I was not watching with others. I still almost did a few times.

A child is hearing voices, and ALL the Doctor can say is "why are you giving her medicine" out right stating that hearing voices is not a bad thing and is not harmful and that the child did not need medicine.

And since the Doctor is the role model of the show and this is a show for families including children, that means ANY child will hear that message.

Especially the children WHO NEED THAT MEDICINE.

As a brother who had a sister with schizophrenia and sociopathic tendencies? Fuck You.

As a person who has severe ADHD and needs medicine to function properly? FUCK YOU.

As a grandson who lives with his grandmother who has dementia?

And if that wasn't enough to piss me off, we have this WONDERFUL tid bit that is UTTERLY THROWN UNDER THE RUG- the military is going to be spraying CITIES with DEFOLIANT AGENTS?

HUMAN POPULATED AREAS.

As a grandson whose grandfather died due to lung cancer brought on because of exposure to Agent Orange?

Words, written or verbal, do not begin to cover it.

All of it, all of it just piled on, one after the other, made this an inexcusable episode of television.

If I wasn't as invested as I am in the series and franchise as a whole, this episode would make me quit watching.

I am dead serious.

This is that guy's last strike, he's going on my ignore list, just too much bullshit coming out of his fingers.
