Juvenile female pronounced dead after shooting in 900 block of Madison Street

Syracuse University’s Department of Public Safety and the Syracuse Police Department responded to reports of gunshots around 901 Madison St. at approximately 8:14 p.m. Friday night, according to an 8:30 p.m. campus-wide public safety alert.

The victim of the shooting, a juvenile female, was pronounced dead, according to a SPD email statement from 10:05 p.m. Friday. SPD identified the victim of the shooting as Alexcia Lynch, a 15-year-old from Syracuse, in a Saturday afternoon statement.

A 15-year-old male suspect turned himself into SPD on Saturday in regard to the shooting, according to a Sunday evening SPD statement. SPD has charged him with murder in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree. He was arraigned and remanded to Hillbrook Juvenile Detention Facility, according to the statement.

SPD’s investigation is ongoing. DPS said in a 9:55 p.m. email Friday that there was no active physical threat to the SU community.

The reported address is down the street from the U Point Syracuse apartment building and other off-campus housing complexes.
